Foot pain from gout can occur when your body over produces uric acid which is a breakdown of purines. Purines are commonly found in red meats . Gout in %90 of those affected come from under excretion meaning your kidney does not flush it out of your system. In %10 it is from over production of uric acid otherwise known as Hyperuricemia .Studies show red meat and alcohol beer and spirits can heighten your risk of a gout attack. the Uric acid crystals will then deposit in your joints. Commonly the big toe joint, however it can deposit anywhere.  Below is a picture of a patient of mine who had gout in many of his joints , including his hands , elbows, knees, ankles, and feet. the gout got so bad that it created ulcers in his feet.

Some cases surgery is necessary to clean out the joint. I have had many patients that the gouty arthritis was so bad that they needed a joint replacement.

When foot pain from gout attack arises you will know. The toe is so painful you can not even let a blanket touch it. An injection can be the solution to your pain. Also there are some new medications out on the market such as uloric (febuxostat) and colcrys (colchicine). Colcrys  and Indomethacin and other NSAIDS are great for pain. But Uloric will actually lower your uric acid.
